Mornings in The Pass are often wrapped in an almost ethereal peace. Traveling beneath the canopy of the majestic live oak trees along Scenic Drive makes you feel sheltered, as if the world has slowed down for a while. One tree in particular catches my attention every time I pass. Scenic Drive rests atop a natural coastal bluff, rising roughly 15 to 20 feet above the highway below. That small elevation makes a remarkable difference, softening the sound of passing traffic and allowing the gentle rhythm of the water to take over. The skies were cloudy. Together, the sun and the trees made their point without saying a word. Framed by emerald grass, weathered oaks, a textured sky, and the gentle lapping of the water, the scene seemed perfectly composed by nature itself. You can sit beneath these trees for hours, watching and listening to the water, without ever feeling the need to be somewhere else. If peace had a place, it would look and feel very much like this.
