Winds 6 - 8 MPH       Waves 1-3 Feet

In a way, this photo is the beginning of SkyCandi. I was riding my bike in the opposite direction one morning, not looking to take any photographs, when I looked behind me and saw this big ball of fire. I immediately turned around and headed the other way, going to the first place I could safely stop. As I got there, I had to get out of the way of cars that were pulling over just to take a picture of this sun. And I did too. It was kind of miraculous. I stayed there after taking this picture and several others, and about ten minutes later the sky had completely changed. The sun looked different. The clouds looked different. You would never know one was connected to the other. Although this is not the clearest photograph, given the equipment it was taken with, it is one of the most striking. When people see it, they immediately stop and take notice. Many of them even say, "Wow, look at that." That morning it was about 80 degrees. The wind was calm, or kind of calm. There were gentle waves on the water, and the birds were out, as they always are. But the most interesting thing, I think, is that I had to get out of the way of one or two cars that were pulling over to look at the sun. They didn't even see me on my bicycle.

And that's okay, because moments like this are meant to be captured and shared.
